UK Amateur Radio Licensing

In the UK, amateur radio operators must hold a valid licence issued by Ofcom. Licences are free but the exams carry a small charge and available at three progressive levels, allowing operators to build skills and privileges over time, they must also be renewed every 5 years on the Ofcom website.

Foundation Licence

The Foundation Licence is ideal for beginners. It allows operation on most amateur bands using a limited power level and simple equipment. No Morse code is required.

The Intermediate Licence expands operating privileges and power limits and includes basic technical construction and experimentation.
